Happy Easter!

27˚C !!!! That's summer dress weather – and it's St George's Day . . . or is it? apparently that's been deferred to 2nd May this year, it's not just the weather systems that are all mixed up this year!

But, it is Easter – and on cue the Pasque Flowers are blooming on the Devil's Dyke near Newmarket. They are pretty rare in Britain and only grow in the wild in 19 sites, we went for a stroll along the high banks of the dyke the other evening just to check out how they're doing this year.

So, this amazing hot, dry and sunny weather has brought out the Oil Seed Rape flowers and wooo! the land turns yellow! I know lots of you loathe this garish stuff, but I rather like the drama of it . . . here's a view across the rolling field of 'High Suffolk', just east of were I live. We went for a lovely walk here yesterday evening as the temperatures started to fall, we're checking out footpaths for Cliff's next 15 mile route for the local walking group.

We found some beautiful tracks, some with big views and others through cool meadows spangled with Dandelion clocks in the evening sunshine.

Have a lovely day tomorrow, whatever you have planned. I'm not sure what we'll be doing, but I've just baked a cake . . . I'm sure we'll eat some it ;-)

  1. All so pretty, and I much needed those photos on this cold, rainy, miserable day. Have you ever seen fields of sunflowers? They really do rotate to follow the sun. Approach the field from the back and all you'll see is green, then go around and you'll see all yellow heads.

  3. Isn't this weather freaky? The Viking was amazed to see his lupine starting to bloom and yet the bluebells are not fully out yet ! I love the rapeseed too. So dramatic!

  5. I was only reading about the pasque flower today. Such a pretty flower. My friend gave me some seeds, but would that be the cultivated variety? I suppose I should pant them and see?
Have a lovely Easter day Celia :)x

  8. I can't help loving the drama of the yellow flowers against the azure blue skies we've been having lately - though so allergic to the volatile oils coming off the crop ...

But, I'm a lucky lucky girl - had a parcel to open this morning from my husband containing your Easter Hen. She's gorgeous Celia!

    Enjoy your jolly cake!

  10. Happy Easter to you too! For the first time we can remember (though he thinks it may have happened in his extreme youth!) it was Himself's birthday on Easter Sunday so we ahd a lovely birthday tea with family and friends. (And chocolate eggs!)

  11. Happy Easter Celia. Lovely Pasque flowers, how wonderful to live close enough to somewhere they grow wild still.

  13. Lovely seeing the Pasque Flower Celia. As you commented we may have fabulous bluebell woodlands in Wiltshire, but I'd give them up for seeing a pasque flower, they are just stunning.

Oh and can you send over a bit of cake, looks delicious!!

  14. I agree with you about the oilseed rape fields. Very dramatic to look at, and the bees enjoy it too. I suppose it might not be so wonderful if someone suffered with hayvever.

  16. Celia, I remember your post on the Pasque Flowers last year - I keep meaning to take a wander over to Devil's Dyke to see these wonders.

The yellow of the Rape seed flowers really brightens up the fields .... not that we needed any more brightening up over the glorious weekend!

    Hope you enjoyed your Easter.

  17. Hope you had a great Easter. We have pasque flowers in the garden, not wild sadly but introduced by me! They seem happy though which is unusual in a place where many things die! Zoe sent me one of your cards as an Easter card. It was very beautiful and has gone on my notice board as a need to keep card.

  18. I would love to get lost of those meadows. :)

Few pots you have - sowing is the easy part, potting and watering ain't..
