  3. I'm Dinahmow ...and I understand Celia's problem.
But I have it under control now. I think...
Well, I've learned that some things don't work in this climate...

  6. Holy Moly! That's a lot of seeds!
I'm in the middle of building my raised beds in my new garden. Didn't grow anything last year as we were between homes last summer. It's fun deciding what to grow!
Any recommendations on "must grows"? Where do you tend to buy your seeds? :)

  7. Last year I didn't buy any seed, but I still seem to have just as much as before. Would you like to grow any magenta coloured spinach 'Magenta Magic' Orach... I saved the seed and have thousands.. It's great cooked and perfect raw in salads. Just leave me a message and I'll gladly post you some... 'Free seed' Perfect for the seedaholic.

  8. Hee-heee! that got you all going :-)

I really am going to try to be organised and sow what I have this year - it's going to be hard though!

Wendy - a lot of these are home saved or swapped seeds. The rest is from local garden centres or holidays abroad (I love buying seed from Spanish or Italian markets).
Must grows: Climbing beans - loads of varieties, a lot of crop per m2, and you can eat the green pod, the fresh bean and save the dry beans for winter soups and casseroles.

Hi Julie - er, I've got that one! It grows like a weed around my plot and a big packet of saved seed just in case. It adds a lovely colour to salad!

  13. Celia, Don't perjure yourself! You know you mustn't make promises you can't keep. That photo is evidence that you're a lost cause, a hopeless case..... welcome to the club. Lesley

  14. Ah, but as they lose their viabilty, you'll just have to keep buying more....
Thinking of my mum's giant seed tin which never stopped her browsing through catalogues.

  15. I can't even have a windowbox as a garden substitute here in my little city apartment, but how I do love to look at garden catalogues, and dream of what might happen if I could sow some seeds.

    Dreaming again. xo

  17. Hi Keats - yes, I need a few acres to grow all these!

Hi Su - thank you, good to have a fellow addict I can lean on :-)

Hi Petoskystone - no, I will be strong.

Hi Veg Heaven - I'll take that as a challenge.

Hi Wendy - you're just showing off (wish I'd counted them now)

Hi Wendy - even more resolved to keep to my vows!

Hi Magramsy - I will throw the packet away if seed doesn't germinate - but I won't replace the packet til next year.

Hi Frances - Yes I remember a few years living in a flat - I had 30 pot plants!

Hi Carrie - good to hear you laughing Carrie!

Well, I nearly lapsed when I spied the Sweetpea seeds at the Daily Bread Co-op - my hand started to stray to the rack! Then I stopped myself and decided to grow the flowers I have seed for. My pea plants have flowers just as pretty as Sweetpeas :-)

  18. That looks like a perfectly reasonable under control seed collection to me. If you need an excuse to buy more I could have lent you our pigs, they broke into one of the outbuildings and trashed it, along with my seed collection. Such a shame, I only managed to retrieve about 50%. Now can someone explain why I have enough sweetpea seeds to set up a flower farm???
