A classic model in working order

I actually preferred sharpening pencils with a knife because sharpeners never seemed to do a good job. Up until the weekend I had two pencil sharpeners in my studio; a little metal one that lives in my pencil case, it's fiddly to use and a bit blunt and a plastic box pencil sharper which has a habit of breaking the lead in the pencil. Neither are things of joy!

But, now sharpening pencils has transcended into a happy ritual with the help of this . . .

. . . a classic vintage desk mounted metal pencil sharpener in full working order.

It's been installed on a shelf in the office and sharpening pencils is now a satisfying interlude :-)

  5. Oh you have got me excited - so much potential in those sharpened points.

Don't you love the smell of pencils?

BTW it's been really hectic round here, a very grateful yes to the offer of your spare COS flag. Thankyou!

  7. Ahh yes! I agree. We have an old pencil sharpener just like that screwed down on to my Dad's old carpentry bench in his shed. It is still the best one around!

  10. I would love to have the money I spent on pencil sharpeners when I taught third grade. None of them worked for long, and nothing shuts down a classroom like a sharpener that doesn't sharpen properly. I kept thinking.. "If they can send people to the moon.." you know the rest. It looks as though you found the perfect solution.

  11. Wow, Celia, those are needle nose pointed pencils!

I recognized one of my own little pencil sharpeners in you photos ... the tiny metal one. I have two of those, both bought on trips to London.

I also have a plastic sharpener with a dome cover ... this is good for field trips (indoors) when you want to sketch, and your pencil is dull, and ... well, I think that you get that picture.

Your new classic model seems best of breed. xo

  13. Some of those pencils look like lethal weapons with their long sharp points... do you have a licence for them?

  16. I LOVE it! At school we all ditched our own sharpeners so we could use the teacher's vintage one clamped to her desk - oh so satisifying! Lucky you.
