Magic Cochin takes it easy

Purple Podded Peas is about 'what's going on in and around my studio'. That includes my garden and the heritage vegetables that I love to grow, I also include adventures that give me inspiration for projects in both my studio and my garden. The studio assistants and under-gardeners make an occasional appearance.

After next week activities in my studio and garden will be restricted to light duties only, that's because I will be recovering from a major operation. Purple Podded Peas will not become a medical drama, it will stay 'on topic' but you may notice a change of style . . .

. . . normal service will resume when I've fully recovered.

  1. Take it easy then, and I hope you are back up to fighting fitness very soon.

BTW would you like some seeds of Lancashire Lad - purple podded? Suffers from the slight bitterness when fresh that these purple peas seem to have but is gorgeous when eaten at the flat stage, like a mangetout. Trialling for the Mushy Pea of the Year award quite soon!

  3. Get fit and well really soon, with a short recovery time. I'll be thinking of you, but don't overdo things just because you think you are stronger than you are.

  4. Good luck for your op. I will be thinking of you, keep away from the hospital free wi fi or those expensive internet/phone/TV bedside connections - so that you do get your rest!

I've harvested my purple peas ready for next year when I'm hoping to have a fully productive vegetable garden!

  6. Good recovering!

(not exactly a phrase in English, but it works in a couple of other languages and I thought it was most apt here).

  7. best wishes for your op and hope the undergardeners and the studio assistants keep you good company while you're recovering. Take your time to get better - as someone once said to me - you can't rush the flow of a river. Hmm. Wise words, I think.

PS when you are better I would like to know how you beat the nasty red mites - the girls had them last year and it drove us crazy trying to get rid of them

  10. I'm sure the gardens will be well-cared- for by the Under Gardeners, maybe with some help from the Studio Assistants.
And any chap who can pickle walnuts can make invalid broth so there you are - all sorted!

(PS... we have some spare surgical collars if you need them! Geiger and Sporran)

  14. Hi Everyone - thank you for all your kind good wishes, which must have filtered through the blogosphere to my hospital bed because I came home at the weekend!

Veg Heaven - I'm married to one so 'Lanacashire Lad' Purple Podded Peas would be great to grow next year. Thank you!

Chooks'r'us - red mites are the pits! Constant vigilence and a can of Decimite spray is my best tip.

Louise - thank you so much for the award, I'm touched.

  15. Hi Celia,
I haven't visited your blog in such a long time, I'm just now, 12 Sep, hearing about your operation. Belated well-wishes from Massachusetts. Hope you're mending well.

  16. Hi Annie - thank you for your good wishes. Yes I'm on the mend and feeling very well. I have just said 'yes' to an illustration project for a publisher to start in about a month's time. But hope to be doing some 'lite' printmaking in the studio from next week.

    best wishes
    Celia
