A morning well spent

summer•shorts no:09

I spent this morning in Cambridge . . .

1) bought new shoes at the best ever shoe shop :-)

2) got fitted! . . . I'm what size!!!! oooooo la la!

3) cultural fix – went to the Fitzwilliam to see Endless Forms: Darwin, Natural Science and the Visual Arts – this is the big one for Cambridge University's 800th year and the Darwin bicentenary, it takes up all six of the museum's temporary exhibition spaces. Surprising, fascinating, beautiful – brilliant!. I now need to sit down and reflect . . .

4) and drink an ice cold Fentiman's Ginger Beer.

  1. neI LOVE to go shopping in Cambridge and always hope to bump into someone I know so that I can sit and have a cup of coffee! I know the shoe shop (I bet you haven't got more pairs of shoes than I have, yah boo) and I too went to Bravissimo a few weeks ago. What a difference! I've ALWAYS been fitted at John Lewis for bras but seem to finish up with the same old shape every time.

I had got tired of carrying this pillow in front of me but now suddenly I am divided and uplifted and a 32GG!! I feel like a new woman but of course George has not noticed !

  3. Ah, you've found my two favourite shops! I particularly love Bravissimo - when I was pregnant for the second time the nice lady in John Lewis politely told me that they didn't really cater for my cup size and perhaps I should try 'the new shop'. I have never looked back!

  4. Hello Mavis - welcome to PPPs!
I'm no 'Imelda' as I spend my life in scruffy studio shoes/walking boots/wellies - but I do like something unusual as well a practical and Sundaes has such a lovely selection. I know how you feel - I feel like I've been remodelled!!!

Hi Rhiannon - I'm sure you'd love the Darwin exhibition - there are some remarkable paintings there alongside the scientific illustrations and exhibits - wonderful stuff!

  6. I worked in Cambridge until a year ago and do miss the buzz of the shops sometimes (but now it makes for a good day out). I will definitely be doing the Fitzwilliam soon! As for Sundaes ...those shoes look gorgeous.

  10. I do agree with Woodland Fay and other commenters that you have had a very fine morning!

Any time that you can find a shop that really does seem to care about customers and knows how to please them ... that's a great treat. (As a shop manager, I so hope that everyone who enters our shop's door thinks we have such a shop.)

But...I so envy you being able to see the exhibit. Fantastic opportunity.

    Best wishes.

  11. Hi Cottage Garden - I don't go shopping in Cambridge nearly enough, yesterday the streets and shops weren't crowded and the weather was glorious!

Hi Myenglishcountrygarden - have a great time at the Fitz - the science is fascinating but the paintings are out of this world!

Hi Gina - I'm not telling you here, but my new size was a shock!

Hi Woodland Fay - if this exhibition was at the V&A they'd be queuing round the block and it wouldn't be free to go in!

Hi Frances - both the shops I went to deserve gold stars for customer care :-)

For those who can't get to Cambridge to see the Darwin exhibition, there's a fantastic online resource - click on the link in the post.
