The Three Sisters – the movie

We had noticed that the leaves of the squash plants in The Three Sisters bed, move and turn with the sun and heat. Today I set up our 'scouting camera' in the veg patch and set it to take a photograph every 10 minutes. I've put together all 123 photos to make this movie.

  1. Aren't plants amazing? I know they're doing it to maximize on getting the light and nutrients that they need, but they actually look as though they're dancing! What fun :-)

  2. Celia, this is a lovely film, a modern sundial. And...think that I glimpsed a golden squash just below the front row of those dancing leaves.

    1. The yellow patch at the front is in fact a flower with a tiny embryo squash attached. The growing season is so late this year, 4 ... maybe 6 weeks behind what it should be!
I'm praying that we will have a warm and sunny autumn and the squash have time to mature.

  4. That's really fascinating. I would have thought that they just followed the sun across the sky directly, but there are lots of smaller movements too. Amazing.

    1. I wish I could tell you the composer, but they seem to be anonymous; this is a free track supplied with my Apple Mac called 'Acoustic Sunrise'.
