One ha' penny, two ha' penny . . .

Hot cross buns!
Hot cross buns!

One ha' penny, two ha' penny,
Hot cross buns!

If you have no daughters,
Give them to your sons

One ha' penny,
Two ha' penny,
Hot Cross Buns!

Thanks to Joanna who posted this recipe on her extremely useful and informative blog at the beginning of last month. Amazingly I remembered and decided to check out the instructions this week – and a good thing I did, because you need to do some pre-planning and start the buns rolling the night before the morning you want to bake them.

And, yes! they turned out pretty good . . . they taste very good!

Happy Easter holiday weekend everyone :-) We're doing some traditional Easter things (gardening, DIY and maybe a walk to see the bluebells).

  7. Celia, as Lent nears its end, I thank you for this connection to a great hot cross bun recipe. I have hippity hopped over to anenglishkitchen for the details.

Today on my errand rounds, I went from shop to shop in my neighborhood looking for hot cross buns that had been eluding me during all the prior weeks of Lent. Well, I finally did find some, and bought one, and got it home, toasted and buttered, and found it ... okay, nothing more. Next year, I bake my own.

In anticipation of my Lentan chocolate abstinence, I have got in house a little supply of those awful Cadbury creme eggs. Not many hours to go.

    Happy Easter!

    Happy Easter

    Hi Celia
Discovered your great blog today after buying one of your prints in Verandah in Norwich. It's for an 80th birthday present for my lovely father-in-law who loves the Suffolk countryside and wildlife, we know he will love it. Thank you.
