Woo-hoo! I'm back!

Hello! I thought I'd pop in to update you with goings on . . .

After the excitement of FolkEast we needed a break, so we loaded up my Tardis and went off for a holiday . . . not too far away, 260 miles to be precise, not as far away from Suffolk as Cornwall or the Lake District . . . we headed due East :-)

Yes! we took the overnight ferry from Harwich and after a good night's sleep in a cosy cabin, we ended up in Holland . . . our destination was a little thatched bungalow on the western edge of Gelderland.
I haven't had time to download the photos I took, in fact I didn't take that many. We hired bikes to explore the local area, took the train to Amsterdam and couple of times and had some trips by car a little further afield, including one just over the 'border' (such as it is these days, just a missable sign on the grass verge) into Germany on the Rhine.

Having got back into drawing after the very inspiring #DrawingAugust on Twitter (see all my August sketches here) I took a brand new sketchbook and my watercolours to keep some sort of holiday journal. The resulting paintings can be seen here . . . I'm adding a new page each day and Tweeting for #paintseptember.

Meanwhile things are getting interesting in my studio, various projects are coming to fruition :-)

Coming soon:

Christmas Cards and Gift Wrap

Fabrics

New small woodcuts

and a feature in a very well known magazine
(I've just been sent a proof to check, so it really is happening!)

Stay tuned!
I'll be back soon
Celia

  1. Once again you have gone somewhere that I have wanted to go, and gone looking at the sights as I would like to. I guess for now I'll have to live vicariously through your travels. I can't wait to see where you go next.

  6. Welcome back Celia, and many thanks for the links to your August drawings and Holland holiday sketchbook. The immediacy of the moment is very apparent in each image, and I very much admire your ability to tend to your observation and drawing and painting.

(I continue to be a laggard on the sketchbook front. You do continue to inspire me to put something on paper, to get my left hand once again used to holding a pen, pencil or brush. Many thanks!)

Of course, I am very curious to see your photographs from the Netherlands and the edge of Germany. Perhaps even a few pictures as you crosses the water east of where you live?) Shall I try to guess which magazine?

Thank you also, Celia for showing me how good Twitter can be.)

    1. You will have to keep a small sketchbook on your next travel adventure, Frances.
I'm afraid there are no photos of the sea cxrossing - I was tucked up in bed in our cosy cabin and it was pitch dark outside :-)

  11. Celia, Love the drawings etc from your Holland excursion. You always manage to pick some great places to visit don't you? I can't get my head around the whole Twitter thing but wish I could as I loved your august drawings too, particularly the one in the church and the other one drawn at night. Very Piperesque and very lovely. Such a range of styles and things to be inspired to draw.
Thanks by the way about the comment on older women. I missed the Channel 4 programme but will try and catch up with it!
