The plot

The main areas of the garden are:

The walled garden – surrounded on three sides by a 'Suffolk-red' brick wall built in 1793, lawn with mixed borders and trees (and home to the under-gardeners).

The dragonfly pond and wildlife garden – a corner of the walled garden which is managed to encourage more wildlife into the garden.

The courtyard – a large square paved area between the wall and our house, a place for containers of tender plants in summer.

The yard – a former stable yard at the front of our plot where I experiment with naturalistic gravel gardening.

The vegetable garden – a long narrow strip of land outside the walled garden, raised beds, orchard, compost heaps, nursery beds, greenhouse and the three-sisters mound are all here.

The wild wood – a small wooded area backing onto open arable fields, our window onto the wild world.
