My mum, when she was young in the '30's, worked as a secretary in the Brum Jewellery Quarter and had the job of carrying 24 carat gold bullion bars between office and out-workers, through the streets, one bar in each hand. The ingots weighed about 2 kilos each and they where carried quite openly around the district. Nobody ever thought this risky. Definitely a more trusting age.Woodland Fayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12874727075887749720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1220897337333701839.post-86120281360016880102009-10-05T19:05:54.577+01:002009-10-05T19:05:54.577+01:00I used to live in Birmingham and I always felt it ...I used to live in Birmingham and I always felt it didn't deserve it#s reputation... LOVE that you ate a mince pie in October, I'm only just beginning to get to like them, so I think it'll be a few more years before I'm craving them in early autumn.

I'm just off to look up train times to Brum ... I hope this will finally put to rest the phrase which drives me nuts - Dark Ages, although the home page of the hoard website does not help. They were not dark, this was a vibrant time with a richness of culture that we have barely an understanding of.

PS: belatedly, happy birthday!BilboWagginshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06913801147278606148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1220897337333701839.post-62934968827381768372009-10-05T06:52:50.654+01:002009-10-05T06:52:50.654+01:00Oh my goodness, I didn't realise the hoard was...Oh my goodness, I didn't realise the hoard was on display. The morris dancers are just one reason why I left! In fact I was born less than half a mile away from where the hoard was found, to think it was lying there all the time while I played above, should have taken my bucket and spade.Woodland Fayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12874727075887749720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1220897337333701839.post-39539478439105150992009-10-04T23:59:07.802+01:002009-10-04T23:59:07.802+01:00i love being taken on virtual trips through your c...i love being taken on virtual trips through your countryside and townships. lovely post. thank you.PatStudiohttp://www.slowlymadegoods.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
